For The College Athletes
Wow! Did you see that? Did you see what the football players at the University of Missouri just showed you? Do you understand the power you have? You people could lead this revolution.
Fist things first, “money talks and bullshit walks”. Second, you know as well as all of us that you are nothing more then revenue raisers for the universities. They make millions off your games. And as the student athletes at Missouri showed us, no game, no money and the forfeiture of money. Now, that talked and the bullshit sure did walk. Let’s examine.
The students of color definitely had a genuine claim against their institution. They also have a genuine claim against the federal government as well. (See where I’m going here?) Fist, they had the claim of the president not taking serious the needs of the students. Second, they made demands on the president, which go unheard. Third, a graduate student decided to use the nuclear option. Forth, the president and school board kept ignoring the problem. Fifth, the football team, sadden by the plight of the graduate student who faced death nine days after beginning his hunger strike, goes nuclear themselves. Sixth, in a move to get the school board to see that the students of color are serious and their voices will not be silenced, the Missouri football team reads them the riot act. They state that if this president does not step down, or isn’t fired by the board of trustees, or whoever, then they will not be playing any more football games. Boy is that bad for business. Seventh, and finally, on the next day the president resigned.
Wow! My new heroes! You guys rock, but did you really see the power each and ever collegiate football (and basketball for that matter) team has? First I want to point out that a hunger strike is the best form of activism there is. This is the one thing that drives a thorn in the sides of the establishment. They hate it. It really makes them look bad. Now that having been said, I believe the 31 black football players all have scholarships. That’s no multimillion-dollar contract, but it is still a contract. The difference between you and the professional NFL players is that they have all that money, while most of you will never go on to play (work) for them. Even though the NFL and NBA players could do this same type of action as the college students, it’s just that they won’t because of all that money and fear of loosing it. You guys don’t have any money to loose and it is like the coach or athletic director of the school said, that they try to teach all their students leadership skills and this is one case of them all becoming leaders and showing their skills. We’ve “got some things to talk about.:
If this is going to be the attitude of each college, and it should, then ready, set, go. It’s time to show you leadership skills. You guys are the millennials. This is your future we are talking about here. It’s time to change the world.
You wanna cut the prison population in half? All teams get together and threaten a strike if the police don’t stop arresting people for marijuana. That’s all it will take. You can end the tyranny. What are they going to do, suspend you? Take away all your scholarships? Like you can’t get an education without one, when you just did. Ain’t going to happen. You want to get a cop arrested for murder when your county D.A. refuse to indite, threaten a strike. You’d be surprised how well the universities work with and influence, a district attorney when their institutions are about to go broke and put people out of work.
This is all just food for thought. After seeing the story on today’s news, I had to point this all out and ask all you college athletes, you millennials out there, to organize and join in. It is your revolution as well. This is your future here we’re speaking about. It’s time to stop being used by those generations that have been here a lot longer than you. Remember, as a 20-year-old, you only have 2 years of adult experience, but 50 or 60 year old has between 32 and 42 years of adult experience. That’s like, twice as long as an adult then you have as a total human being. I don’t think you can really imagine what that means. Basically, it means that they have way too much experience about life then you can understand and know how to control and mold you all into good productive citizens. Don’t let them. Perhaps you might all get together and strike the weekend before election, 2016. In the mean time, keep it up, good job.
